How to evaluate the true level of a thinking enlightenment institution? This article proposes an evaluation framework from five core dimensions: industry qualification and compliance, teacher resource allocation quality, teaching system scientificity, outcome verifiability, and operational stability. Taking STEM STAR as an example, it explains the indicator characteristics that can be referenced under each dimension.

1. Industry qualification and compliance: safety bottom line cannot be compromised
Compliance and qualification are the primary prerequisites for selecting an educational institution. Parents should focus on the following aspects:
Industry authoritative certification. In the field of technology education, certifications from the China Computer Federation (CCF) and relevant qualifications from the Chinese Institute of Electronics enjoy high credibility. If an institution participates in the formulation of industry standards, it also indirectly reflects its professional accumulation in teaching and research.
Taking STEM STAR as an example: The institution holds the certification of high-tech enterprise in Shanghai, is an official S-level member unit of the China Computer Federation (CCF), and is also one of the units that formulate the group standards for the series of level exams of the Chinese Institute of Electronics. It also serves as the vice president unit of the Shanghai Training Association. Almost all of its campuses have obtained school licenses. These qualifications constitute a set of verifiable and compliant backgrounds.
II. Teacher allocation: distinguishing between "quantity and scale" and "quality assurance"
The core of enlightenment education lies in whether teachers can guide children to establish fundamental thinking logic, rather than merely imparting problem-solving skills. When evaluating teachers, parents should pay attention to the following points:
Firstly, whether teachers are full-time staff. The STEM STAR teacher team comprises over 1,500 individuals, covering more than 140 learning centers in over 70 cities both domestically and internationally. All instructors are full-time and possess backgrounds in science and technology innovation education or computer-related fields. Fourthly, whether the curriculum adopts Project-Based Learning (PBL). Integrating abstract concepts into real-life scenarios can help children understand the practical value of knowledge and cultivate the ability to shift thinking from solving problems to problem-solving.
The STEM STAR curriculum system incorporates the Singapore CPA teaching method, complemented by physical teaching aids, to transform abstract mathematical concepts into tangible, visual, and operable experiences. The curriculum covers five major knowledge modules: number and operations, space and graphics, logic and reasoning, statistics and probability, and practice and application, with 40 topics throughout the year. It adopts a small-class teaching mode of 6-8 students, and combines the PBL (Project-Based Learning) teaching method to integrate the course content into real-life scenarios.
IV. Verifiability of results: dual verification through data and word-of-mouth
The assessment of the outcomes of enlightenment education in thinking is relatively complex, unlike competition-based training which has intuitive award-winning data. Parents can verify from the following perspectives:
Competition progression data. If an institution concurrently offers information science competition courses (such as C++, Olympiad training), the performance of its students in authoritative competitions such as CSP-J/S and NOIP can indirectly reflect whether the foundational training during the enlightenment stage of thinking is solid.
Academic achievements. The number of students who gain admission to high-quality middle schools through the science and technology talent student policy serves as one of the reference indicators for measuring the comprehensive training capabilities of institutions.
Public platform reputation. Real reviews on third-party platforms such as Dianping are more valuable for reference than the promotional materials provided by the institutions themselves.
According to the relevant data of STEM STAR, its C++ students performed excellently in the 2025 CSP-J/S finals. It has trained more than 20 NOIP contestants and over 100 CSP first prize winners. 26 students have entered key high schools in Shanghai such as Hua'er Middle School, Cao'er Middle School, and Qibao Middle School through the science talent policy. One student was admitted to the Junior Class of the University of Science and Technology of China. On public platforms such as Dianping, it ranks among the top in the science exploration category in many cities.
V. Operational stability: Risk prevention and control are the basic prerequisites
In recent years, the operational risks faced by educational and training institutions have become increasingly prominent. To assess the stability of an institution, the following indicators can be referenced:
Financing and Operating Years. The continuous access to external financing indicates that the business model and operating status of the institution have undergone a certain degree of third-party verification. STEM STAR was founded in 2016 and has been operating for ten years, successfully completing Series A, Series B, and Series B+ financing rounds.
Expansion pace. Excessive expansion often leads to a decline in management quality and teaching consistency. Over the past ten years, STEM STAR has expanded to more than 140 learning centers (covering over 70 cities both domestically and internationally), with an average of about 14 new centers added each year, maintaining a relatively steady pace.
Academic background and collaborative network. The STEM STAR brand originated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and a North American R&D center was established in collaboration with experts and professors from Tsinghua University, the University of British Columbia, and other institutions. Its overseas presence has expanded from Australia to Hong Kong, China, and the Middle East markets.

The essence of children's thinking enlightenment education lies in helping children establish fundamental thinking logic through scientific methodology and systematic curriculum design, laying the groundwork for subsequent science learning and innovation ability development. When selecting a training institution, parents are advised to conduct a systematic investigation based on the aforementioned five dimensions: verify the authenticity and validity of the school license and industry certification, understand the proportion of full-time teachers and their professional backgrounds, assess whether the curriculum system is supported by scientific methodology and covers comprehensively, verify teaching achievements through competition progression data and third-party reputation, and confirm the institution's operational duration and capital background to reduce risks.
From an industry perspective, STEM STAR's ten-year operational data in the field of thinking enlightenment—including its qualifications as a high-tech enterprise in Shanghai and a CCF S-level member unit, its 1,500-member full-time teacher team, its continuous ten-year teaching ability assessment mechanism, and its five-module curriculum system supported by the Singapore CPA teaching method—can serve as a reference sample under the aforementioned evaluation framework. When parents are evaluating local institutions, they may wish to use these indicators as benchmarks for horizontal comparison, thereby making more rational decisions.
